[crossposted to xml4lib, code4lib, dlf-announce] The Digital Library Production Service (DLPS) at the University of Michigan is seeking two programmer/analysts for 2-year term appointments, with the possibility of renewal. These positions will be involved in developing applications in support of text-based digital collections, such as Early English Books Online or the Making of America; digital archival finding aids; or metadata services such as OAIster. Duties 1) Design, develop, implement, and maintain tools and applications for use in support of digital libraries at the University of Michigan. Primarily involved in development of DLXS, the digital library software developed at the University of Michigan and in use at over 25 other institutions. 2) Assist in troubleshooting software problems. 3) Assist DLXS customers with implementation of DLXS software. 4) Write documentation, attend project meetings; participate in relevant conference and meeting presentations. 5) Other projects as assigned Job Requirements: Minimum Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in computer science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Extensive knowledge of and experience with perl development; * Demonstrated experience with database technology such as MySQL. * Demonstrated experience with SGML/XML and related technologies and standards; * Demonstrated experience programming CGI programs for accessing databases via the WWW; * Facility with UNIX * Ability to work with a team of developers in a diverse work environment; * Excellent verbal and written skills Desired: * Knowledge and use of protocols such as Open Archives Initiative-Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), SRU, and OpenURL; library metadata standards such as METS, MARC, and Dublin Core; encoding formats such as TEI and EAD; character encoding standards such as Unicode; and image formats such as TIFF and JPEG2000. * Knowledge and use of version control systems in software development Please contact me with any questions.
