I have always named my computers after librarians. My first one was named Dewey. It (he) had a 2 GB disk drive, and I thought that was huge. Dewey hosted the NCSU Libraries Library Without Walls, its original WAIS/gopher server, and the Mr. Serials Process. I named one of my first personal computers Alcuin. He was a librarian and advisor for Charlemagne. At home my primary server is named Naude who was a French collector of books. As I inherited other computers and peripherals, I named them after librarians as well. For example there is (Paul Evans) Peters. My wireless Apple Airport device is named Kilgour. My external 20 GB firewire disk drive is named Alexandria. My current home desktop computer is named Cutter. Here at work my computer is named Bliss. My family use another computer to shop, and luckily I was able to name it Sears. Here at Notre Dame we named one of our computers Jerome, the patron saint of libraries. My desktop computer here at work is named Bliss. I just bought a new computer for home use. I plan to use it to do a lot full text indexing. That computer's name is Wilson. One of the rules I have regarding the naming of computers is to never use the same name twice.
