From the Forum pre-conference in Boston, where METS, PREMIS, and DLF Services Framework meetings or workshops have already started, David For immediate release: November 6, 2006 Contact: Kathlin Smith: 202-939-4754, [log in to unmask] CLIR BOARD ELECTS NEW CHAIR, VICE CHAIR WASHINGTON, D.C.<The Board of the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) elected Paula Kaufman chair and Wendy Lougee vice chair at its meeting November 3. Ms. Kaufman, interim chief information officer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), succeeds Charles Phelps, who retired from the Board after serving his term limit of nine years. Wendy Lougee, university librarian and McKnight Presidential Professor at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, succeeds Ms. Kaufman as vice chair. Before accepting the position of CIO in the summer of 2006, Ms. Kaufman was the university librarian at UIUC, a position to which she will return when her term as interim CIO ends. Before coming to UIUC in 1999, she served for 11 years as dean of libraries at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and in a variety of positions at Columbia University, including acting vice president and university librarian. Ms. Kaufman has served on the boards of RLG, SOLINET, the Society for Scholarly Publishing, and the Association for Research Libraries (ARL), serving as its president in 2002. Before her appointment to the University of Minnesota in 2002, Ms. Lougee was associate director of the University Library at the University of Michigan, with responsibility for digital library services. She had also served as head of Michiganšs Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library. Ms. Lougee serves on the Digital Library Federation Executive Committee and the RLG Program Council, chairs ARLšs E-Science Task Force, and is the current chair of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation University Librarians group. Herman Pabbruwe, chief executive officer of Brill Academic Publishers, will continue as CLIR treasurer. James F. Williams II, dean of libraries at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will continue as secretary. The Council on Library and Information Resources is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the management of information for research, teaching, and learning. CLIR works to expand access to information, however recorded and preserved, as a public good. # # #
