Please contact him or the email at the bottom of the announcement for more information. --------------- Digital Resources Librarian Harrington College of Design Chicago, IL The Harrington College of Design Library seeks a bright, innovative, creative, and flexible individual for the position of Digital Resources Librarian. About Harrington College of Design and the Library Harrington College of Design celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2006, and currently supports more than 1,400 students in bachelor and associate programs in Interior Design, Digital Photography, and Communication Design. The college is located in the Chicago Loop, which serves as a vibrant living laboratory for students. Harrington enjoys an excellent reputation in the design community, and values excellence, integrity, community, intellectual curiosity, creativity, and diversity. The Library collection is focused on design, architecture, and art, and contains approximately 25,000 print volumes. The library provides access to 10,000 electronic books and three dozen subscription databases for the Harrington community. The library staff includes 3 FTE professional librarians, 1.5 FTE support staff, and several student workers. Beginning in 2008, the Library will be a participant in the I-Share resource sharing system. Position Responsibilities Under the direction of the Director of Library Services, the Digital Resources Librarian will have the following key responsibilities: * Serve as system administrator for the library's integrated library system. * Administer and promote the library's electronic resources. Identify new electronic resources, and communicate with faculty about trials. * Administer and promote the library's digital image collections, including those in Luna Insight. * Develop and maintain the library presence on the college's intranet. * Implement new library technology initiatives, such as virtual reference, federated searching, Web 2.0 applications, and innovative technology projects. * Assist with reference and instruction, possibly including evening and/or weekend hours as required. Required Qualifications MLS or graduate-level coursework toward an MLS, or equivalent education and experience. Familiarity with digital image collections and with implementing library technology. Understanding of current trends in library information technology. Proficiency with HTML, Microsoft Windows, and standard productivity applications such as Microsoft Office. Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated initiative and project management skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work independently. Ability to work creatively in a team environment, and superior verbal and written communication skills. Desired Qualifications Additional degree or experience in art, architecture or design. Experience with Voyager ILS or other ILS software, database design, digital image collections, and Web development. Knowledge of XML and scripting languages. Understanding of controlled vocabulary and metadata standards. Experience with usability and assessment. Reference and/or instructional experience in an academic library.
