Those are impressive salaries! What's the cost of living like in
Washington?

I forgot to mention that there is also a 5 year position in the Office
for Strategic Initiatives as well [1]. Similar pay range ($93,822.00 -
$121,967.00), similar title (Information Technology Specialist)...but a
slightly different (more interesting imho) job description. I'm led to
believe that these 5 year contracts can be extended. Unfortunately I
just noticed this one, and the online application deadline is
01/26/2007.

This is the unit I'm currently working in so ping me if you are
interested/curious.

EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES

The Library of Congress evaluates applicants through an applicant
questionnaire and a structured interview. Applicants may also be
screened for some jobs through licensing, certification, and/or
education requirements, a narrative/application review, and/or a
preliminary telephone interview. The knowledge, skills, and abilities
(KSAs) that are marked with a double asterisk (**) in the vacancy
announcement and the applicant questionnaire are considered the most
critical for a position. To be considered for final selection,
applicants must demonstrate fully acceptable experience in these
designated KSA's in the narrative/application review, preliminary
telephone and/or full structured interview. The various assessment tools
listed above are designed to verify or explore applicants'
experience, knowledge, and training directly related to the job in order
to identify the best qualified applicants for selection.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the
Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.

This is an indefinite NTE (5 yrs) appointment.

The incumbent of this position will work a flextime work schedule.

DUTIES:

Develops policies and guidelines for multimedia projects and programs
relevant to the Library's digital holdings. Applies technical
understanding of multimedia digital content, systems, techniques and
technologies.

Conducts IT strategic planning and project management activities related
to the life cycle management of digital content. Plans and/or
accomplishes a range of IT projects for digital library applications.

Plans and manages projects for digital library applications related to
Web-based systems such as monitoring emerging technology and making
recommendations accordingly. Provides major input towards a long-term
Web technology strategy. Installs and maintains Web-based systems,
Web-based information services and/or Web-based research tools.

Analyzes ways in which information technology might improve workflow,
operational duties, or information services. Evaluates the usefulness
and usability of databases and software applications. Works with
computer specialists to translate library requirements into information
systems.

Serves as a project leader, team leader or chairperson for working
groups, task forces, or committees which have been assigned
responsibility for digital library projects and programs.
Participates in planning the work of a team, including formulating goals
and objectives, task plans, milestones, critical paths, and deliverables
