Position description:
Digital Collections and Archives (DCA) is the steward of the University's
permanently valuable records and collections created in any format, ensuring
their permanent preservation and accessibility. The DCA supports the Tufts
Digital Repository and Tufts Digital Library, the University-wide Records
Management Program, and the University Archives and Manuscript Collections.

As a central library, the DCA serves all schools and divisions of the
University. The DCA seeks an individual with extensive knowledge of current
trends in digital library and repository issues as well as the ability to
convey technical concepts in understandable ways to non-technical staff,
faculty, and students to fill its Digital Resources Archivist position. The
Digital Resources Archivist is responsible for:

* Creating and managing digital collections generated from the
  holdings of the DCA and produced by members and organizations of
  the Tufts community according to accepted standards and best
  practices;
* Managing the ingest process for objects going into the TDR/TDL;
* Serving as a knowledge resource for the DCA and its constituents
  on rapidly changing standards and practices for digital content
  creation and management;
* Helping to set policies, priorities, and practices for the
  production and management of digital objects;
* Conveying DCA policies on digital object creation to content
  creators including faculty, staff, administrators, and students;
* Working with colleagues in accessing and processing electronic
  records.

The Digital Resources Archivist is also responsible for assisting the
Digital Repository Program Manager in the research and development of:
digital content creation and transformation tools such as metadata
crosswalks and automated data retrieval applications; automated XML document
creation applications; XML transformation and reorganization applications;
data models for new types and formats of digital content.

*Basic Requirements:*

* ALA - accredited MLS
* One to two years of relevant experience
* Knowledge of XML

*Preferred Requirements:
* Experience in creating and providing access to
research and scholarly materials in digital form is preferred. Experience
with XML text-encoding, metadata standards, digital object modeling is
valuable. Experience with digital asset management tools and Web services is
a plus. Knowledge of XML and related technologies, TEI, EAD, Perl, Unix
shell scripting, XSLT, HTML is also preferred. Special collections and/or
archives training and experience is strongly desired.
