Colleagues, I bring this report to your attention, since the idea of extracting information from authorities/terminologies for use in enhancing and improving search rose to the top of our list at this meeting (and was also mentioned in the ILS Task Force meetings at the just-concluded DLF meeting in Philadelphia). We'll be doing some work in this area, which will hopefully be of broad use in a number of applications. Desired meeting outcomes included a list of the most important features and use-cases in order to help prioritize efforts of RLG Programs and OCLC Research in this area of work. The meeting focused on the discussion of the "Terminologies Services Strawman" document http://www.oclc.org/programs/events/2007-09-12a.pdf. This document was distributed to participants in advance of the meeting with instruction to share and discuss it with three peers. Meeting participants reported on their conversations, and, informed by the feedback of their peers, ranked the components of a terminologies service as outlined in the strawman. Send us your thoughts! Merrilee Merrilee Proffitt Program Officer RLG Programs, OCLC Programs and Research [log in to unmask] web: www.oclc.org/programs Merrilee blogs at.... www.hangingtogether.org
