Dear Colleagues:

I am very proud to be able to tell you that yesterday Adam Chandler and
Oliver Pesch, who co-chair the NISO Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting
Initiative (http://www.niso.org/committees/SUSHI/SUSHI_comm.html) were
notified that they have been chosen to receive the ALCTS Outstanding
Collaboration Citation for 2008. As described on the website, SUSHI is "an
automated request and response model for the harvesting of electronic
resource usage data utilizing a Web services framework that can replace the
user-mediated collection of usage data reports," and recently was officially
recognized as ANSI-NISO standard Z39.93-2007. SUSHI has been supported from
its inception by the DLF as part of the ERMI 2 project.

In her message notifying them of the award, Citation Committee Chair
Gracemary Smulewitz noted that "The jury unanimously feels that your work
represents a collaborative effort between industry and academia and strongly
represents the criteria for the Citation. Your leadership in the development
of the protocol was exceptional and the results have a universal impact on
usage statistic measurement. It is an honor to recognize your
contributions."

The award is a new one, and was awarded for the first time last year to the
CLOCKSS project. According the the ALCTS website the award ". . . recognizes
and encourages collaborative problem-solving efforts in the areas of
acquisition, access, management, preservation, or archiving of library
materials. It recognizes a demonstrated benefit from actions, services, or
products that improve and benefit providing and managing library
collections."
