Title: Emerging Technologies Manager The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) seeks a dynamic and innovative leader to manage its Emerging Technologies Program. METRO is a non-profit membership-driven organization dedicated to meeting the needs of its 260 member libraries and individual members. This new position offers the unique opportunity to expand METRO's member outreach efforts in digitization and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will strengthen and improve METRO's web presence and interactive capabilities with its membership using Web 2.0 tools and other emerging technologies, explore existing and emerging Library 2.0 technologies and their application to library services with METRO members. The candidate will also manage and expand METRO's existing digitization program (see the Digitization Resources page at www.metro.org) and will use the current METRO Digital Library Services Plan as a guide for current and future initiatives for METRO members. The METRO Emerging Technologies Program provides METRO members with funds for digitization projects, training and web services to initiate and/or to improve their library's services. The Emerging Technologies Manager will work with excellent colleagues on the METRO staff and among its member libraries, some of the most diverse institutions in the nation, to develop this position. The position reports to METRO's Executive Director. Responsibilities: Represents METRO in the New York and national library communities focused on digitization and emerging technologies. Plans and implements educational programming and consulting services for METRO members in the areas of Web 2.0, Library 2.0 and other emerging technologies. Coordinates the planning, design, and maintenance of METRO's Internet-based services including web-based tools, real-time interactive tools and similar functions. Provides referral services to METRO members on emerging technologies and digital issues. Manages the METRO digitization grant program, including application development, marketing the program, organizing and participating in the grant review process and consulting with successful grantees. Coordinates training associated with the digitization program. Utilizes outside program consultants to enhance the planning and implementation of METRO's digital and emerging technologies programs and services. Stays current in the latest developments in digitization and emerging library web technologies. Qualifications Required: * Masters degree required: Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited), Information Management, Business Administration, or a related field * Familiarity with current technologies used to market and provide services to librarians and their customers * Ability to communicate ideas related to integration of new and emerging technologies in the library to all levels of library staff from support staff to administrators * Knowledge of web development and information architecture concepts * Experience with collaborative, multi-institution digital or web projects * Knowledge of collaborative, multi-institution digital projects * General knowledge of digital library standards and best practices * General knowledge of content management systems and digital repositories * General knowledge of evaluation and assessment techniques * Experience managing library programs/projects required * Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development, particularly within the library technology world * Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills * Demonstrated ability to independently organize and manage several projects simultaneously * Sensitivity to the needs and interests of multiple stakeholders and ability to build and nurture these and other relationships * Experience working collaboratively in a team environment Preferred: * A strong customer service orientation * An entrepreneurial outlook * Intellectual curiosity and the ability to be flexible * Experience working within a complex network/membership environment preferred * Grant-writing experience preferred * Experience working in a library or a non-profit organization preferred Salary: Salary range begins at $70,000; 401K with organization contribution; 20 days annual leave; sick leave; 13 + paid holidays; NYS Retirement; excellent health/dental benefits; will reimburse relocation expenses.
