From Esther Grassian, UCLA and Deni Wicklund, Stanford:

Dear DLF Members,

Virtual worlds are in the news! On April 1st, Second Life (SL) was the
subject of a U.S. House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet
hearing. Both Larry Johnson (NMC) and Philip Rosedale (Linden Lab, Second
Life) were invited to testify at this hearing. You can watch a video of the
hearing, if you like:

This illustrates rising interest in the functions and potential of virtual
worlds like SL. As you may know, DLF already has an island in SL (Entropia)
with several buildings. The new co-leaders of the DLF SL Initiative, Deni
Wicklund (Stanford University) and I, are working on plans related to the
three main objectives of the approved proposal for collaborative use of this
area: establishing a social framework, conducting experimentation, and
applying standards and best practices of library and information science in
a serious analysis of SL.

I need help in achieving these goals, please complete the following
survey, on a voluntary basis.

(10 minutes or less to complete. One survey per person, please!)

Thank you!
