We have two developer positions open at the Georgia Tech Library: web
development and application development.

Both positions provide development, testing, documentation,
implementation, and maintenance for the Georgia Tech Library's
web-based digital programs. These applications are built primarily
using open source software and emerging web technologies. These
positions anticipate and investigate new trends in library technology
so that we can respond quickly to changing user needs. They provide
primary support for new initiatives such as scholarly communication,
electronic publishing, and image databases. They also provide support
for the Library's institutional repository and the digital collections
of the Georgia Tech Archives. The developers will work with our
partners on campus and in library consortia to share solutions to
mutual challenges.

Facilitate access to digital archival and manuscript collections using
technologies such as the Archivists' Toolkit, DSpace, Fedora, or other
software. Ability to apply collaborative communications technologies,
open source tools and emerging web technologies. Provide support for
the Archives' image database. Support the EPAGE publishing initiative,
using Open Journal Systems and Open Conference Systems software.
Provide enhancements and support for Library resources which use
DSpace/Manakin, including SMARTech (Georgia Tech institutional
repository), the Archives digital repository, and the Galileo
Knowledge Repository. Other projects as needed, involving web
development for various library web sites needs.

Systems Analyst I
Web Developer

Experience:

Two or more years of job related experience. Development experience
must include XHTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, JavaScript, and PHP. Experience
with Java, Ruby on Rails or SQL is helpful. Familiarity with UNIX,
LINUX, Apache and Tomcat. Ability to interact professionally with
faculty, librarians and technical staff, as well as good customer
service and communication skills. Prefer working experience in a
university environment, preferably in the library.

Education:

Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree, or two years college course
work or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer a
Bachelor's Degree.

Systems Analyst II
Application Developer

Experience:

Three or more years of job-related experience. Development experience
must include Java, XML, SQL and PHP. Prefer experience with XSLT,
JavaScript, and Ruby on Rails. Familiarity with LINUX, Apache and
Tomcat. Ability to apply collaborative communications technologies,
open source tools and emerging web technologies. Ability to interact
professionally with faculty, librarians and technical staff, as well
as good customer service and communication skills. Prefer working
experience in a university environment, preferably in the library.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
