Description: Princeton University Library seeks an Interface Developer 
to join its
Library Digital Initiatives group as we design and build a new, 
state-of-the-art digital library system. This system is being developed 
in a native XML database environment and will serve a broad range of 
library users. The person in this position, in consultation with 
colleagues and users, will help build the search and discovery 
component, incorporate and extend the image viewing functionality, and 
add library specific functions for viewing books, manuscripts, and 
images. This position will also be assigned other digital library and 
library web services projects as the need arises.

Required:

     * A candidate for this position should have a B.S. or B.A. degree 
from an accredited institution
     * Thorough knowledge of user-interface design concepts
     * Recent experience with contemporary Web technologies and 
paradigms, especially AJAX and RESTful design
     * Familiarity with core XML concepts
     * Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment
     * A strong commitment to standardization and open-source principles

Preferred: Candidates possessing the following will be given special 
consideration:

     * Experience designing or building digital library systems
     * Experience with METS encoding for library material and metadata
     * Experience building web applications with eXist; knowledge of 
programming languages especially Java, Python, Perl; knowledge of 
Apache, Tomcat, Jetty
     * Experience with native XML database/XQuery technologies
     * Experience working with JPEG 2000 technologies
     * Master's Degree in computer or information science with a focus 
on graphical user interfaces
     * A strong background in designing and building graphical user 
interfaces for both web sites and web applications

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and 
commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) 
vacation days a year, plus eleven (11) paid holidays. Annuity program 
(TIAA/CREF/Vanguard), group life insurance, health coverage insurance, 
disability insurance, and other benefits are available.

Rank: This is an Administrative position; grade AIT030, 100% duty time.
