I'm Steve Morris, Head of Digital Library Initiatives at North Carolina State University Libraries. I was PI on one of the eight initial NDIIPP collection building partnerships, the North Carolina Geospatial Data Archiving Project, which focused on preserving state and local government agency geospatial data (http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/ncgdap) and concluded earlier this year. I am also a participant in the NDIIPP multistate GeoMAPP project, which will continue through next year (http://www.geomapp.net ( http://www.geomapp.net/ )). At NCSU I oversee digital library research & development and services development, including our digital repository initiatives (http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/dli/).

I look forward to working with you all.

Best regards,

Steve Morris

Welcome to the NDSA Standards and Practices Working Group!

Each working group will have co-chairs, one from the NDSA community, and one from the Library of Congress. I'm Jimi Jones and I'll be the Library of Congress co-chair for this working group. While the NDSA organizational structure is beginning to be put into place (including who the working group chair from the NDSA is), the LC co-chairs wanted to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and officially kick off the working group listservs.

The first order of business is to make sure you are the appropriate person from your institution to be signed up for the Standards and Practices working group. If a colleague of yours will be participating in this group instead of you, or in addition to you, please contact me directly ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) for them to be added to the listserv (or if you'd like to be removed). We encourage multiple participants within and across working groups. And remember, your institution can switch to a different working group at any time if a particular group is not a good fit.

The second thing we'd like to do is to get a better sense of the participants who are on this list and interested in the Standards Working Group.

I invite you to post a quick message to say hello, introduce yourselves, and tell us a little about what brought you to this NDSA Working Group!

I'll get us started:

I started here at the Library of Congress very recently - this past March - so I'm a newbie to this institution! I am serving as Digital Audiovisual Formats Specialist here at the Office of Strategic Initiatives and NDIIPP. Prior to working here at LC I was Project Coordinator for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Audiovisual Self-Assessment Program, an IMLS-funded project (http://www.library.illinois.edu/prescons/avsap). I am a 2007 graduate of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Illinois and I am in my second year of teaching as Adjunct Professor for that program. I teach a course entitled LIS 590 AVL: Audiovisual Materials in Libraries, Museums and Archives. Prior to my master's work I worked as an audiovisual archivist at the University of Utah's J. Willard Marriott Library. I spent two years developing the Marriott Library's Utah Independent Film Archive, a collection of film and video art made by Utah artists (http://tinyurl.com/3yff6vt). I have worked professionally as videographer, cinematographer and editor and in 2003 I received my bachelor's degree in film production from the University of Utah.

I'm looking forward to working with all of you!

Best,

Jimi
