Hello all. Wednesday, January 12th was our first NDSA Standards Working Group meeting for the new year. We had a highly productive meeting that went a long way towards organizing our Standards Survey project. We decided that Kate Murray, Andrea Goethals and Shane Beers would be our first action team. Their task is to look over the survey entry template (which can be found on the wiki here: http://www.loc.gov/extranet/wiki/osi/ndiip/ndsa/index.php?title=Survey_Template) and make edits and refinements as they see fit.

The next step is to begin organizing other action teams. We looked through the template at the meeting on Wednesday and decided that one way to start generating action teams is to look at some of the "Categories" (found in the template) and see if they can become topics of research for action teams. We also thought that since we have a lot of audiovisual specialists on this group we could have one action team collecting information on AV format standards. To this end I've started a page on the wiki (http://www.loc.gov/extranet/wiki/osi/ndiip/ndsa/index.php?title=Categories_and_Action_Teams - you'll have to log in) for people to start coming up with action teams. I've started you off with a couple ideas but feel free to edit these and/or add your own. I thought you could use this space on the wiki to "self select" for action teams - put your name and email address under the team you're interested in working on - whether it's one of the ones I've generated or new teams that you all generate.

This is your assignment for our February meeting: choose an action team that you'd like to be a part of. I've also created a Google Groups space for our working group. You should have received an email from me inviting you to take part in it (check your spam folder if you don't see it in your Inbox). If you did not receive an email invitation you can email me or go here: http://groups.google.com/group/ndsa-standards-working-group?hl=en and request to be added. Several people on Wednesday's call expressed a preference for Google Docs as a way of quickly and easily creating shared/shareable documents. The template action team will create a document for their team to edit. Feel free to get cracking and generate Google Docs as needed. I'll leave that to you.

Take a look through the wiki also - I've added a few things and moved a couple things around, including a link to the archives of this listserv (you'll need to log in to view the listserv archives).

And last but not least we need to determine a good time for our February meeting. I'd like this to be a standing, recurring meeting date and time. I'm giving you the option of four days in the second week of February. Please vote on this as soon as you can and I'll send out the "winning" date/time. I'll also post it to the wiki. Here is the Doodle poll: http://doodle.com/tymutugtz9ezpqin

I will put some highlights from the meeting this week up on the wiki on the page for January's meeting notes and agenda. I have also put the link to the recording of the WebEx on the wiki as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what you choose as action teams on the wiki and talking about them in February. This is a great group and I'm very pleased to see the energy you're all generating!

Best,

Jimi
