Hey Eric,

Is this an Innovative system you have access to (at Notre Dame)? And do you need to do this one time only, or does it need to be automated and ongoing?

If it's a system you have access to, and you only need it once, then you might just have one of the staff there use the Millennium client to get these records. Innovative provides modules (Create Lists and Data Exchange) to search for and export MARC records. There is, of course, documentation for that.

If it's an external system, or you want to automate the above task, then that's a much trickier question. We have some code here that might help with that, but I don't want to overly-complicate your task.

Subject: [CODE4LIB] exporting marc records from iii

How does a person go about exporting MARC records from a III system?

As you may or may not know, I spend a lot of my time developing a thing colloquially called the "Catholic Portal". It uses VUFind under the hood, and it requires me to ingest bibliographic data from a myriad of libraries.

Suppose the records I desire have the letters "crra" saved in MARC field 590$a. What is the process for connecting a III system, searching for "crra" in 590$a, and saving the result as a file of MARC records? Is there some sort of documentation I can read that will help me out in this regard?
