What made the biggest impression on me was the role of "policies" as the way to manage the processes. They can be expressed separately from all the machinery that manages the data. It probably is obvious to many, but I hadn't thought of it clearly until Reagan explained it. Keeping (archiving) old policies around to track what has been done to manage the data over time and infrastructure changes seems like a good practice to recognize. Clearly, we want to be distilling out the practices offered by the various expert presenters and gaining consensus on the benefits and drawbacks of the different strategies.
