Subject: May 10-12 Redwood City PASIG User Group Agenda and Registration
Oracle PASIG User Group Meeting - Redwood Shores, May 10-12, 2011 - Register Now!
The latest agenda for the Oracle PASIG User Group Meeting is below. We already have about 20 registrants, but I would appreciate it if people could register asap to help us finalize negotiations on some inexpensive room rates with local hotels next week.
The registration URL is: http://events.ioug.org/e/in/eid=10. The attendee cost for this event is $325. This will be the first meeting of the PASIG as an Oracle User Group! We will be both 1) relaunching the PASIG as an independent organization and 2) creating a broad advisory group to set directions from attendees at the event.
Looking at this agenda, I really feel the PASIG can become THE forum where 1) institutions and companies involved in preservation, repositories, content management, and data management have an opportunity to talk about new collaborations, architectures, and business models across industries, 2) Oracle can discuss direction with you and you will have an opportunity to float ideas informally with both Oracle and partner technologists, and 3) macro and micro technology trends are discussed and defined. Now becoming an independent organization that can call on both Oracle and Community expertise, will establish PASIG as something unique in the broad Digital Content and Preservation arenas.
The related Oracle sponsored PASIG event at the British Library has maxed out at about 160 attendees. As in the past, we will post the content of this event for review.
I would like to thank Alexis Bauer at the Oracle International User Group for help in setting this event up! Any partners interested in sponsorships should contact her directly at [log in to unmask]">[log in to unmask].
The meeting is designed as follows:
Day 1 - A review by two industry experts - Tom Cramer and Alison Macdonald on preservation and repository trends. This will be mixed in with an overview of Oracle technology and vertical markets related to digital preservation, content, and access. This is an optional section of the program, though we realize many of the PASIG attendees have not had a comprehensive technology update for a while and might want to meet key Oracle managers 1-1 during the day and in the evening.
Day 2 - The formal kick-off will be Wednesday morning. The meeting will be moderated by Mike Keller. Wednesday's meeting will be focused on Developing Architectures and will address issues around scalability, interoperability, new models, and implementing best practices. There is a reception at the Convention Center after the day's proceedings.
Day 3 - There will be a focus on best practices and architectures as they pertain to vertical markets including Research, Data Curation, and Media. The last part of the day will be for open discussion and break outs.
Agenda Updates: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and DuraSpace are now on the agenda. Welcome!
