Dear NDSA,

We're looking forward to some great work in the month of October! Here are some of the highlights that the NDSA Working Groups have planned for the month ahead.

Content Working Group
co-chairs Cathy Hartman ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Abbie Grotke ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>)

 *   The Registry Action Team is finalizing what fields will make up the registry, specifically discussing digital preservation levels that NDSA members can self-identify with as they submit content to the registry.
 *   The Registry and Clearinghouse Action Teams plan to take a look at how these activities intersect.
 *   As an outcome of the July meetings, we're working on developing a Action Team plan focused on local government information.
 *   Will be exploring how collaboration with WordPress might open more blog archiving opportunities.
 *   Distributing a survey to learn more about organizations in the United States involved in web archiving.
 *   Next Content Working Group conference call on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 11:00 am EST

Infrastructure Working Group
co-chairs Karen Cariani ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Trevor Owens ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>)

 *   Has a survey on large-scale storage choices open at: http://bit.ly/ndsa-storage-survey. If your organization hasn't already filled out the survey, please do so today!

 *   Will create a shorter version of the survey to send out more broadly to the digital preservation community
 *   Next Working Group conference call on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 1:00 pm EST

Innovation Working Group
co-chairs Micah Beck ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Jane Mandelbaum ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) with additional help from Trevor Owens ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>)

 *   Neighborhood Watch storage evaluation concept will be pursued and refined
 *   Interviews with innovative figures continue
 *   Google Summer of Code Action Team pursues how to involve participants in digital preservation issues

Outreach Working Group
co-chairs Carol Minton Morris ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Butch Lazorchak ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>)

 *   Continues to shape the "Digital Preservation In A Box" materials for use by library and information science students
 *   Storytellers Action Team has kicked off and is looking to collect digital preservation stories
 *   Next Working Group conference call in the next two weeks.

Standards and Practices Working Group
co-chairs Andrea Goethals ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Jimi Jones ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>)

 *   Is embracing Wikipedia as a hosting solution for the format registry
 *   Participants decided to find a page or two already on Wikipedia and start editing those pages to conform to the fields they identified as critical for the format registry
 *   Encouraging all with standards interests to select a Wikipedia page (or two!) and start editing. Review of progress is slated for the next conference call.
 *   Next Working Group conference call on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm EST
