Dear NDSA,

I hope that everyone is enjoying the fall weather! Here's a preview of the NDSA work ahead in November:

Content Working Group

co-chairs Cathy Hartman ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]:[log in to unmask]>>) and Abbie Grotke ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]:[log in to unmask]>>)

 * The next call for the Content Working Group is this Wednesday, November 2, 2011 starting at 11:00am EDT.
 * The call will be a focused discussion on the previously distributed blog preservation proposal. Interested NDSA members and others, including some that attended our 2010 citizen journalism meeting, where the idea first came up, will be participating. We also plan to have results from the recent U.S. Web Archiving survey available to CWG members in November.
 * We encourage members to provide updates on the Content Working Group listserv about our other action teams, and anything of interest to members. If you are a new member, now's a great time to post an introduction!
 * Results from the recent U.S. Web Archiving survey will be made available to CWG members in November.

* Great response rate to the a survey on large-scale storage choices at: http://bit.ly/ndsa-storage-survey. Thanks to all who participated. Preliminary findings will be circulated to the NDSA-ALL list this month.

Standards and Practices Working Group

 * On November 7th at 1:00 EDT the Standards Group will have its next monthly WebEx.
 * We'll be looking through a Wikipedia page (for the Broadcast Wave audio format) that we will be conforming to our standards survey template. This page will serve as a straw man that we'll kick around during our November 7th meeting.
 * After that we will be breaking up into action teams that will comb Wikipedia for digital preservation-related standards and conforming existing pages to our template. Ultimately we will be creating a Wikipedia "Digital Preservation Standards" portal that will point to all of these standards, along with brand-new Wikipedia pages that we will make in the future.
