This is an announcement and invitation to the following two-part event.  Sent to multiple lists, excuse the duplication.

Document Once, Use Many: Determining Fit-for-Purpose Digital Formats at NARA
Discussion of ongoing planning at the National Archives and Records Administration pertaining to digital records of all types: textual, audiovisual, data, etc.  There will be two presentations followed by a "stay if you are interested" workshop discussion.

November 28, 2011.  West Dining Room, Library of Congress.

10 - 11 am  -- Presentations and Q&A
*  Developing Transfer Guidance for government agencies for digital records.  Kevin DeVorsey will discuss the ongoing development of revised guidance about the digital records to be transferred to NARA for preservation.  The current guidance is provided at http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/initiatives/erm-guidance.html
*  Defining digital Products and Services to be created when reformatting physical records.  Kate Murray will discuss the list of products and services provided by NARA reformatting operations.  For reference, see http://www.archives.gov/preservation/products/definitions/copy-types.html

11 am - 12 noon -- Workshop discussion
Kevin DeVorsey and Kate Murray seek input and ideas from staff at the Library and other federal agencies.  This workshop discussion will continue and elaborate on the Q&A that followed the presentations.  Interested persons are invited to attend and to participate.
