Purdue University Libraries seek two programmers to develop and implement
software to build out a long-term preservation environment for research data,
allowing the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR,
http://research.hub.purdue.edu) to sustain published and archived digital,
research data and integrate research data into library collections and
services. The responsibilities of the Digital Library
Software Developer include:

  
* Evaluating current and relevant technologies, standards, and practices in systems that are used to manage digital information in a library context (in particular those related to metadata management, persistent identifiers, data interoperability, and discovery tools)  
* Developing and implementing software to build a standard-based preservation environment for digital research data  
* Collaborating with colleagues and partners, both national and international, to develop and implement software in support of policies and practices that enable long-term digital data management and preservation  
* Contributing code to the HUBzero open source software project  
  
Required Qualifications:

  
* Bachelor's degree in computer technology, computer science, library and information science, or a related field  
* Experience gathering requirements, evaluating tools, and designing, developing, debugging, and implementing software  
* Demonstrated documentation, analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills, working independently and as a member of a team  
* Mastery of two or more current programming languages  
  
Preferred Qualifications:

  
* Experience with PHP, java, MySQL, XML, or RDF  
* Experience working in a library or with systems that manage digital information in a library context

Salary and benefits are very competitive. A check of criminal conviction
records will be made for employment in this position. FLSA: Exempt (Not
Eligible for Overtime). This is a limited duration position expected to last
approximately 18 months with continuation dependent on renewal of funds.
