**Responsibilities**  
Library and Learning Services at Marymount University, Arlington, VA invites
applications for a Metadata/Electronic Resources Librarian. The
Metadata/Electronic Resources Librarian supports the library's goal of
providing excellent access to the resources that support the education and
research needs of the Marymount community. The position is responsible for
cataloging library holdings and the management of the electronic resources of
the library. The position requires expertise, initiative, and flexibility in
responding effectively to changing needs and priorities.

  
Library & Learning Services (L&LS) is a team based, user-oriented environment.
Librarians at Marymount University hold faculty rank and participate in
collection development, serve as liaisons to a School or department, teach
information literacy classes, provide reference and research assistance, and
represent L&LS on and off campus by participating in a variety of teams, task-
forces, and committees.

  
**Core Service Responsibilities**  
Performs original and adaptive cataloging in all formats based on knowledge of
national standards such as AACR2 (rev), RDA, FRBR, MARC21, LCSH, LC
classification, and other metadata schemes (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD, TEI, MODS,
and METS); Manages the batch loading and maintenance of records received from
vendors; Oversees establishing and maintaining records and links for
electronic resources in the online catalog and ERM; Manages and negotiates
license agreements and amendments, renewing database and e-journal package
subscriptions, paying invoices, compiling and loading records, maintaining
access to electronic resources acquired by the library, and providing accurate
reports and statistics; Fosters and maintains positive relationships with
publishers, vendors, and consortia partners; Communicates to L&LS knowledge of
current technology trends as they apply to cataloging and electronic
resources; Prepares written reports detailing activities; Works in
collaboration with the Electronic Services Librarian and members of the
Collection Services Group to maintain and update the integrated library
system, currently Endeavor Voyager, as it pertains to the cataloging module;
and Participates in appropriate WRLC committees and Marymount University
teams.

  
**Librarianship Responsibilities**  
Develops the collection by selecting and assessing library material, in all
formats, for assigned liaison subject areas; Acts as liaison to assigned
University School or departments and actively participates in the Selection
and Faculty Services Team; Teaches information literacy sessions and
contributes to team projects related to instruction and pedagogy; Provides
reference and research assistance to users at all service locations through a
variety of communication formats (in-person, phone, and electronic); Designs
and collaborates with other librarian faculty to produce web-based teaching
and learning objects; Participates in the ongoing assessment of the
effectiveness of library services; Maintains continued awareness of issues
facing academic libraries through involvement in local, regional or national
library organizations; Participates as a member of the faculty of Marymount
University in accordance with the Marymount University Faculty Handbook; and
Pursues professional development opportunities, including research,
publication, and professional association activities to meet University-wide
criteria for promotion.

  
**Minimum Qualifications**

  * Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  * A second Master's degree is required for advancement.
  * Three years relevant library experience.
  * Working knowledge of national standards such as AACR2 (rev), RDA, FRBR, MARC21, LCSH, LC classification, and other metadata schemes (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD, TEI, MODS, and METS).
  * Working experience with library technologies/software/systems needed to create metadata, catalog library materials, and manage electronic resources, such as OCLC, ILS systems, and OpenURL linking technologies.
  * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  * Knowledge of broad trends and issues in technical services, cataloging, and related technologies.
  * Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  * Demonstrated analytical, organizational, time, and project management skills.
**Preferred Qualifications**

  * Experience with digital content management systems such as DSpace or ContentDM.
  * Graduate degree in the Social Sciences or Humanities.
  * Experience with ERM systems, such as Serials Solutions.
  * Experience negotiating contracts and licenses with information providers.
  * Excellent teaching and presentation skills
