I've now managed (I think) to upload my slides successfully, I hope that this provides a bit of a framework... I have also managed to download John and Priscilla's slides now, and will send more detailed comments this evening. First impressions ... - this seems like a good start, I like the content so far. - for the final version a 5 minute talk will usually have 5 (if text only) - 15 slides (if heavily image based)... - its easier for people to remember a lot of concepts (as is common in the lightning talk approach) if there are some images... - Compression slides: a lot of information here, this could easily be broken into multiple slides with one concept each, accompanied by a formula/image/or useful reference... that would probably cover 5 min+ - Media slides: - the reality-check on industry practice seems useful, grounding, and attention grabbing; - I think one of our goals for this section was to talk about media characteristics generally, e.g. mean-time-between-failure rates on disks; shelf-life of tape/cd; media characteristics associated with gradual corruption (a few bits) vs. catastrophic failure of the entire tape/platter/disk best, Micah On Tue, Jun 26, 2012 at 2:28 PM, Dr. Micah Altman < [log in to unmask]> wrote: > Colleagues, > > Sorry for the connection problem.
