NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE BETHESDA, MARYLAND SERIES & GRADE: Technical Information Specialist, GS-1412-9/11 POSITION INFORMATION: Full Time Career/Career Conditional PROMOTION POTENTIAL: GS12 SEVERAL VACANCIES in Bethesda, MD WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: US Citizens and Status Candidates Two positions are located in the MEDLARS Management Section (MMS), Bibliographic Services Division (BSD), Division of Library Operations (LO). Please note additional selections from other areas of NLM's Library Operations may be made through this vacancy announcement. The MEDLARS Management Section: (1) coordinates activities between NLM and its online users providing documentation, technical information, and training; (2) responds to advanced customer services inquires; (3) coordinates testing, quality assurance, and development of MEDLINE data; (4) licenses and distributes NLM data; (5) coordinates Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) activities. The Technical Information Specialist will provide support for various NLM databases and information retrieval systems (e.g. PubMed), including; providing assistance and advice for various bibliographic and information retrieval systems; planning, designing, testing, implementing and evaluating web-based search interfaces and computer applications; acquiring, organizing, accessing and disseminating information standards, bibliographic information and medical terminology in automated library systems, databases, and world wide web applications; and, supporting classroom and distance education training activities, and documentation for various bibliographic and information retrieval systems.
