Under the direction of the Learning Technologies Manger, this position provides a combination of instructional technology first level support with that of an interactive developer. As a member of the Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Solutions Group, the Learning Technologies Developer supports curriculum initiatives at Harvard Law School through developing, implementing and evaluating online tools appropriate for Web and mobile technologies. The Learning Technologies Developer supports and produces Web applications and content using HTML with jQuery for both Web and mobile devices, and manages the department Linux Server with MySQL/PHP. Responsibilities include: As a member of the TLC team, provide first level support for the Learning Management System iSites, wikis, blogs and other popular applications. Work with the team to implement instructional and visual designs by creating or modifying modules within these existing applications. Consult with faculty, the TLC team and other constituents on innovative teaching solutions. Design and develop effective, interactive Web solutions for teaching and learning using web publishing tools/applications (e.g.,WordPress), current standards based web design practices (CSS3, HTML5, JavaScript), and user- centered design principles. Create and/or modify PHP for WordPress themes, plug ins based on new or existing designs that accommodate a range of client content/editorial requirements. Coordinate Web development projects from conception through implementation using PHP; jQuery and JavaScript as appropriate. Provide assistance to web content editors as needed. Manage the department Linux Server with MySQL/PHP. Work on grant funded projects with the Berkman Center, and on new and existing applications created by the Berkman Center, with PHP and Ruby on Rails. Migrate existing content into new sites; assist with incorporating new and changing content. Assist with performance and metrics. Define and document best practices for existing and new services; provide training on using individual sites. Troubleshoot browser compatibility issues. Develop code that adheres to principles of best practices and is secure, scalable, and maintainable. Participate in quality assurance testing and production of relevant documentation. BS/BA and five years of instructional/information technology or related experience in higher education required. Must have at least 3 years experience as a member of a technical web development team, familiarity with web content management systems and proven track record of developing dynamic web applications, including for mobile devices. Master's degree in software engineering, media, or related field preferred. Experience in an academic library or other academic unit; experience within the legal field or in publishing Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and web authoring tools. Experience with web development tools such as PHP, HTML, JaveScript, jQuery, and WordPress. Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and the Adobe suite. Knowledge of learning theories. Ability to translate original or provided design mockups to current W3C standards- compliant HTML5 and CSS3 code Knowledge of Web accessibility best practices. Experience with project coordination, working in team environments and independently. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and collaboration skills. Ability to interact positively with and build consensus among a diverse group of colleagues, clients, and senior leadership. Ability to think creatively and strategically in problem-solving and developing new solutions. Experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical staff.
