The Oberlin College Library and Archives invites applications for the position Digital Projects Intern. This is a temporary, part-time intern position working up to 20 hrs/week. Exact schedule to be determined at time of offer. The term of the position will be through December 21, 2012, with the possibility of extension through June 28, 2013. Responsibilities: The position will support preservation and digital access activities supervised jointly by the Assistant Archivist and the Special Collections and Preservation Librarian (working 50 percent of time in each department). Essential Job Functions: Carry out the work on designated digital projects through scanning, digital photography, or the management of outsourced projects to vendors; contribute to the maintenance of digital images and the creation of related metadata in CONTENTdm or FileMaker Pro databases; assist regular professional staff in selecting images and mounting descriptive information for online presentations and finding guides; work with the Administrative Assistant and Professional Staff in completing orders of digital images of collection items for patrons and members of the campus community; and, work in the stacks to identify documents/objects that require modest methods of preservation and digital capture. Marginal Job Functions: Undertake special projects and other duties as directed. Requirements: Masters in Library Science, or substantial course work completed towards a Masters degree in Library Science. Competency in digital photography and Photoshop software. Desired Qualifications: Undergraduate coursework in History and Art History. Knowledge of metadata standards in the library and archives communities, digital imaging, and CONTENTdm. Experience with at least one digitization project in a Library or Archives. Compensation: $12.00 per hour / No benefits.
