Longwood Gardens invites applicants for the position of Archivist in the
Education Department.

**Position Description:** This position is the Longwood Gardens' Library and Information Services (LIS) team's authority for management of the historic archival materials, records management, and cultural objects inventory. The archivist establishes oversight, preservation methods, and housing strategies for these collections. He/she works closely with the Digital Resource Specialist to provide maximum access to archival collections and develop projects that expand collection access. He/she implements professional best practices to arrange, describe, and control archival and cultural object collections. He/she works closely with the LIS Coordinator on collection development of archival and photographic materials. The archivist participates in the development of archival electronic storage strategy, LIS public services, and other division initiatives. He/she supervises the Archives Assistant.  
  
**Education Department Description: **The Education Department is composed of five divisions: School (K-12) & Youth Programs, Domestic & International Studies, Longwood Graduate Program, Continuing Education, and Library & Information Services with a staff of ten full-time and 34 part-time employees.  
  
**Qualifications:** Education: Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Archival Studies.  
  
**Years and Types of Experience: **Minimum of two years of professional experience in historical or institutional archives managing, arranging and describing archival collections. Experience with object collections, archival digital content, and/or records management, preferred.  
  
**Salary: **Salary is commensurate with education and experience for this full-time, permanent position. Incumbent will have the opportunity to participate in Longwood's comprehensive and competitive benefit programs.
