The American Theological Library Association (ATLA) in Chicago seeks qualified
applicants for a position as Production Manager for ATLA's products. The
Production Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of data
sets to ATLA's vendors on a set production cycle for _ATLASerials_®
(_ATLAS_®), _ATLA Religion Database_® (_ATLA RDB_®), and _ATLA Catholic
Periodical and Literature Index_® (_ATLA CPLI_®) as well as ATLA's partner
products _New Testament Abstracts_ (_NTA_) and _Old Testament Abstracts_
(_OTA_). This includes responsibility for digitization, data processing, data
integrity, and quality of records as well as the maintenance of all data
files. S/he is also responsible for integrating specific sets of retrospective
data into the production database, enhancing existing products, and helping
develop "proofs of concept" for new products. The Production Manager reports
to the Director of ATLA's Products Department and supervises the digitization,
IT, and QA teams (approx. 7 people).

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

  * Coordinates data file corrections and QA for updates of ATLA's products
  * Performs ongoing quality assurance testing and reliability reviews of data with regular feedback to the department's management team
  * Works with other managers in the department to coordinate indexing production and digitization for _ATLASerials_® (_ATLAS_®)
  * Oversees all digitization processes for ATLA's products
  * Assists in the evaluation and development of existing products and develops proof of concept tests for new and/or enhanced products
  * Develops and keeps projects to a firm production schedule
  * Produces written and statistical reports on a regular basis
  * Documents procedures, policy decisions, etc.
  * Works with the other managers in the department to set and apply departmental policies and conventions
  * Provides leadership in problem-solving and implementation practices of software to support the production process
  * Assists in the evaluation and selection of new material for products as well as assists in the evaluation of scope and content of products
  * Supervisory responsibilities
  * Willingness to delegate and work in team context
  * Participates in determination and implementation of work flow improvements for departmental projects

**Qualifications:**

Required Qualifications Include:

  * MA, or equivalent, in library, information, or computer science
  * Working knowledge of current metadata standards (MARC 21, METS, MODS, TEI, etc.) and XML
  * Demonstrated database management skills
  * Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with current digitization standards and software
  * Demonstrated supervisory experience
  * Proven ability to produce accurate and timely work in a publishing atmosphere with firm deadlines
  * Effective interpersonal skills to work in a collegial team environment with other staff members

Preferred Qualifications:

  * Master's degree or background in religious studies, theology, or a closely related field
  * Background in programming skills (Perl, Java, etc.) and agile development techniques
  * Ability to read and work in at least one Western European language (German, French, Spanish or Italian); knowledge of additional languages a plus
