* As requested by the Library's web curators, conduct, configure and administer web harvests to produce web archives in the ISO WARC format * As specified by the Library's web curators, design and implement access interfaces to the library's web archives * Evaluate, design and develop workflow tools for web curators PANDORA, Australia's Web Archive, was established by the National Library in 1996 and is a collection of historic online publications relating to Australia and Australians. Web sites are selected for inclusion in the collection with the purpose of providing long-term and persistent access to them. In addition, since 2005 the Library has contracted the Internet Archive to take annual snapshots of the entire Australian web domain. The current web archiving technical infrastructure has been in place for more than ten years and is scheduled for replacement as part of the Library's Digital Library Infrastructure Replacement project. A software and systems engineer is required to implement this component of the new infrastructure. We are seeking an innovative self-starter who will be required to undertake self-directed research, and produce workable solutions in limited timeframes. You will also need to have experience with web technologies, java coding and Unix systems. The Library is a member of the International Internet Preservation Consortium and has joined forces with other National Libraries and Archives and the Internet Archive to solve the problem of preserving current web content for future use. Non-ongoing contract of 18 months with the possibility of an extension of up to three years.
