The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, School of Information Studies has a large diverse, international faculty that is among the top ten LIS programs in the United States for research productivity, a thriving Center for Information Policy Research, and interdisciplinary initiatives with numerous institutions in the United States and abroad. Situated in the cultural, commercial, and educational hub of the state, in a pleasant residential neighborhood overlooking Lake Michigan, UWM is a research university committed to academic excellence. With more than 30 full-time faculty and teaching academic staff and more than 900 students, SOIS offers several education programs: a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Technology; an ALA-accredited MLIS; several coordinated graduate degree programs, including History and Anthropology; transcript-designated concentrations within the MLIS in Archival Studies, Digital Libraries, Public Library Leadership, Information Organization and Information Technology; post-masters Certificates of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Management and Digital Libraries; and a PhD in Information Studies with concentrations in Information Organization, Information Policy, and Information Retrieval. The Archival Studies Program is ranked in the top ten archival studies MLIS programs in the United States. Students are drawn from across the United States and abroad and routinely placed in repositories such as the U.N. Archives, the Newberry library, the Library of Congress, and the Ward Irish Music Archives for Alternative Spring Break and Fieldwork. Alumni have obtained permanent positions with such institutions as the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Huntington Library. SOIS hosts three internal research groups: the Research Group for Information Retrieval, Information Organization Research Group, and the Social Studies of Information Research Group. The SOIS research and instructional programs are designed to be a resourceful blend of the University's mission with the School's information focus, international scope, and interdisciplinary mindset. Job Summary/Basic Function: The School of Information Studies (SOIS), the iSchool at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM), invites applications for a full-time twelve-month Teaching Academic Staff position in Archival Studies. The selected applicant should be prepared to teach courses in both the School's graduate and undergraduate programs, supervise fieldwork placements, and participate in other professional services. Applicants should have a strong background in archival or records management practice along with the ability to conceptualize and teach the field. SOIS invites applications from all candidates but is particularly interested in candidates who can complement and/or supplement the archival studies program's existing efforts in community and international engagement, outreach to distance students, and the breadth of traditional professional practice. SOIS is committed to both onsite and online education; demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats is highly desirable. Applicants must be able to teach the required course "Introduction to Modern Archives Administration" and in at least one other practice area. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to serve in an advisory capacity and to work closely with students (onsite and online) to secure fieldwork positions. Minimum Qualifications: 1. MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program. 2. Professional archival experience. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Extensive experience in archives or records management. 2. Teaching experience (onsite and online). 3. Ability to teach across archival practice areas. 4. Course design experience. 5. Evidence of student advisement/mentorship. 6. Knowledge of both archival theory and practice. 7. The potential for working with allied areas within SOIS. 8. Familiarity with both domestic and international developments in Archival Studies.
