The University Archivist oversees the acquisition, processing, and preservation of both physical and digital materials for the University Archives and Special Collections. The Archivist takes a leadership role in developing digital collections and an institutional repository, in collaboration with other units in the Libraries. Position Summary Information: The University of Dayton, founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary, is a Top Ten Catholic research university. Minimum Qualifications: M.A. in public history or M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program with formal training in archival theory and practice and knowledge of historical methodology; a minimum of two years post- degree full-time experience working in an academic archives; supervisory experience; demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse user communities; knowledge of and experience with digital access management software such as CONTENTdm, and Institutional Repository software such as Bepress Digital Commons; knowledge of archival management software such as Archivists' Toolkit; knowledge of and experience with descriptive standards such as DACS, EAD and Dublin Core, as well as markup and stylesheet languages such as XML, XSL, and CSS; knowledge of file formats used for preserving digital information; excellent written communication skills; commitment to the University's Catholic and Marianist mission and identity. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with archival management software; experience with rare books; training in/familiarity with preservation standards and practices; supervisory experience with full-time staff; excellent oral communication skills; grant-writing experience; certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists.
