The Senior Serials Assistant also helps develop and implement policies for
retention, shifting and discards of serials also accessible in electronic
form. S/he is responsible for shelving all periodicals received, and
maintaining accurate and neat shelving. S/he also assists with various
inquiries from users of the serials collections. Basic support of activities
in the Poetry Center (answering questions, unlocking and locking doors, etc.)
as needed.

  
The Mildred F. Sawyer Library holds 11,500 bound periodical volumes and
145,000 microform units; it subscribes to approximately 400 periodical,
microform, and newspaper titles.

  
**Qualifications:**  
  
_Required_: Work experience in a library setting. Accuracy, attention to
detail, and superior organizational skills are essential. Excellent
interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability
to be flexible, self-motivated, work independently and as a team player.
Ability to reach shelves above shoulder height and to lift boxes up to 40 lbs.
Preferred: Knowledge of library serials procedures and/or library systems,
preferably III Millennium. Familiarity with searching and adding local
holdings to OCLC. Bachelor's degree.
