Head of Library Systems

St. Edward's University Library invites applicants for the position of Head of
Library Systems. The Head of Library Systems will provide leadership in
creating new digital information services, including the continual evolution
and optimization of the library's web presence. To this end, the successful
candidate will use web design best practices to improve the library user
experience and will add value to library services and resources through APIs
and other software applications. The Head of Library Systems reports to the
Library Director and will work closely with librarians in Archives and Special
Collections, Technical Services, and Public Services. The position supervises
the Digital Services Manager position.

new ideas to improve the patron experience in an environment that embraces
risk-taking and experimentation - where one's talents are refined and
developed as new skills are learned on the job. Initiative, independence and
the ability to be collaborative and communicative are critical to the
position. The successful candidate will add value to library services and
resources by providing technical leadership and implementing digital
initiatives in support of library users. The position
receives direction from the Library Director, but is required to perform tasks
and complete projects without structured guidelines while adhering to the
library's vision statement. This is a position for fast
professional growth, where one's accumulated experience can lead to career

About the Library:

The St. Edward's Library building is currently undergoing renovation, expected
to be concluded in the summer of 2013. During construction, the library is
functioning predominantly as a virtual entity. In such an environment the Web
site is the mission critical manifestation of the library and its services.
The construction project offers a unique real-world experiment in the digital
realm, and its results will inform the library's future. The library has a
staff of 16. The collection consists of over 80,000 print
books and 100,000 eBooks as well as 25,000 ejournal
titles.

Salary Range:

$60,000 to $70,000
