acquires, organizes, manages, and delivers a variety of information resources

Job Description

  
The Sandia National Laboratories Technical Library is seeking an innovative,
highly motivated, energetic and forward-thinking Digital / Library
Applications Technical Librarian to become part of its Library
Team. The selected candidate will take a lead role in the
search and discovery of Library information resources, managing, supporting
and taking to the next level the Library's core suite of Ex Libris
applications including Primo, MetaLib and SFX. The Digital
/ Library Applications Technical Librarian has overall responsibility for
researching, evaluating, selecting, implementing and supporting technologies
shaping the Sandia Library, working with Sandia Library staff, Library IS
Support and Library customers in order to identify, analyze and address
Library technology needs and future direction. The
Librarian will provide vision and leadership to the Library's technology needs
and future and will be self-directed and independently
motivated. Professional librarians afforded the opportunity
to work at Sandia will be actively engaged in the development of meeting the
needs of Sandia's researchers and management through the deliberate use and
deployment of technology as a research and reporting tool.

  
  
Required

  
Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited
school, plus two or more years of experience. Knowledge of
and/or experience with all aspects of Library Science - including
acquisitions, cataloging and metadata control, collection management,
document-delivery, electronic resources and reference. A
strong focus in digital librarianship and library applications is required as
is a keen interest and desire to work with the often dynamic and changing
special library environment. Experience with library
systems and applications, web design and usability, metadata and information
architecture, as well as some experience with web coding and programming using
such languages and tools as PHP, Java/JavaScript, Python, SQL, Perl, XHTML,
CSS and a working knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies and
SharePoint. Teamwork and leadership capabilities are
required, along with strong interpersonal and communication
skills. The successful candidate must have the ability to
take initiative and to be self directed and motivated.
Candidate must be able to demonstrate their project management, analytical,
and problem solving skills, with an aptitude for complex and detailed
work. Strong service orientation to customers and to co-
workers is a must. Ability to acquire a U.S. Department of
Energy security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship

Desired

  
Knowledge of and experience administering the SirsiDynix Horizon library
automation system and the Ex Libris suite of applications including Primo,
MetaLib and SFX. Professional understanding and knowledge
of taxonomies, ontologies and content management systems.
Understanding of collection management practices related to the scientific,
technical and report literature - coursework or degree in the hard sciences or
in computer sciences is a plus. Experience with making
information access as intuitive as possible for the "do-it-myself" researcher
as well as familiarity with information push technologies, such as
personalized search is desired.
