The Special Collections Research Center of the Temple University Libraries
seeks an Associate Archivist. Reporting to the Director of
the Special Collections Research Center, the Archivist is primarily
responsible for accessioning, processing, and preserving collections, and
creating finding aids using archival and cataloging standards; working closely
with the Director on the appraisal of new collections; assisting in
conceptualizing and mounting exhibits; and performing outreach duties. The
Archivist will provide reference services for the SCRC as assigned and may
supervise student support staff. The Associate Archivist's primary
responsibilities will be related to the Philadelphia Jewish Archives
collections. Additional responsibilities include: contributing to grants;
development and implementation of procedures, policies, and goals of the SCRC;
and public programs at the University and in the community; participates in
relevant archival conferences and workshops; and provides service to the
library and university. Performs other duties as assigned.

  
Requirements

Required education, experience, and skills:

  
Master's degree in a relevant discipline and formal archival training and/or
certification. A minimum of three years of relevant archival experience,
including both processing and reference.

  
Knowledge of 19th and 20th century European and American history, particularly
related to Jewish immigration, culture, religious, social service groups and
Jewish service organizations.

  
Knowledge and experience implementing standards and best practices for
arrangement, description, cataloging, preservation, and access to archival
materials.

  
Knowledge of systems and software needed to process archives and manuscript
collections, create electronic finding aids, and digitize and make collections
accessible digitally.

  
Knowledge of archival organization and descriptive standards (such as DACS,
Dublin Core, EAD, LCSH, AAT); collection management and digital content
management systems (such as III, DB/Textworks, CONTENTdm, Drupal).

  
Ability to work in and contribute to a team environment.

  
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  
Preferred:

  
Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists.

  
Reading knowledge of Yiddish, Hebrew, and/or German.
