Folks,

The next NDSA Geospatial Subgroup call is coming up today, November 8, 2012 at 3:00pm EASTERN.

This is the new regular monthly day and time for these calls (they'll be held the second Thursday of each month).

On today's call, Wayne Graham, Head of Research and Development at UVa's Scholars' Lab, will discuss the approach they are taking in preserving, providing a discovery interface, and making scholarly use of their GIS datasets.

For the past several years, they have been working with Open Source technologies to develop a GIS infrastructure for maintaining and enabling their collections through OGC-compliant web services. As part of their holistic approach, they have recently released Neatline, a plugin editor interface for developing rich, interpretive maps using the Omeka platform. He will discuss their overall strategy for working with GIS data, integrating maps in to interpretive frameworks, as well as his experience migrating data from different systems.

All NDSA members are welcome to join us, and the call info is below.

If you wish to regularly participate in the Geospatial subgroup activities, send me a note and I'll add you to that listserv.

Butch
