Work Schedule: This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. One evening reference shift a week may be required. General Description: Pacific Lutheran University is seeking an Instruction and Reference Librarian to participate in our information literacy program, work collaboratively on digital library initiatives and improvements and collection development, and provide stellar reference service. Librarians at Pacific Lutheran University hold faculty rank and are expected to participate in university governance and service, as well as pursue an active research agenda. The successful candidate will have the option of either tenure track or clinical faculty status, contingent on the candidate's qualifications and interests. The librarian is expected to work as a peer with faculty, and to develop collegial relationships with faculty and others via research assistance and committee work. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provide general and specialized reference service in traditional and digital environments, including chat reference; Participate in an information literacy program under the leadership and guidance of the instruction coordinator; Actively develop the library collection in several subject areas, in collaboration with librarian colleagues and departmental faculty liaisons; Collaborate with other librarians in strategic planning for and implementation of digital collections and services, including but not limited to online journals, e-books, online reference tools, and data sources; Take a leadership role on collaborative library projects as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: We are looking for a candidate with interest in and enthusiasm for innovative library instruction and services in an academic setting. The successful candidate will demonstrate most, if not all, of the following skills and abilities: a dynamic and engaging teaching style, with demonstrable pedagogical skill and an interest in innovative teaching methods; enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction; an outgoing, creative and entrepreneurial spirit; ability to work both collegially in a library setting and independently in various departments and other locations on campus; demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and Web-based research resources, course management systems (e.g., Sakai), and content management systems; ability to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to the library profession; ability to become an active participant in campus life. Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent master's level degree in library and information science. Candidates currently enrolled in a master's program are eligible to apply, but degree must be in hand by July 1, 2013. Instruction and reference experience in an academic library. Teaching experience in other academic settings would be considered as a substitute for this requirement. Broad familiarity with research methods in major disciplines. Demonstrated experience or interest in online instructional design, and/or familiarity with design tools such as Camtasia, Jing, Youtube, Adobe Captivate, Illuminate. Commitment to professional development and service. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching in a course-integrated library instruction program, and/or credit-bearing term-length information literacy courses. Experience with digital library technologies, features, and services including online catalogs, serials portals, link resolvers, content management systems, course management systems, proxy servers, and/or social media channels. Subject expertise in one or more of the following areas: business, economics, and/or political science.
