JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in the Discovery Services Division of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries. The employee serves as the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator and works closely with Discovery Services and Research Services staff to provide integrated and efficient workflows for centralized interlibrary loan and document delivery for the entire Smithsonian Libraries' system. DUTIES: Supervises (2) library technicians in the Interlibrary Loan department. Responsible for the borrowing and lending of interlibrary loans and fulfillment of document delivery requests from all SIL branches and external libraries. Serves as the resident expert on complex citation verification, and resolves discrepancies and inaccuracies when the bibliographic data is abbreviated, incomplete, or incorrectly cited. Collaborates to establish and maintain guidelines on methods and priorities of requests for SI researchers and for filling incoming requests from other libraries. Incorporates use of digital and full text resources and provides creative solutions and uses of electronic resources for document delivery. Analyzes and recommends new and emerging services and tools for delivery of research materials. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Experience: One year of full-time experience at the GS-07 level that is close or similar to the work of this job. The experience includes activities such as providing interlibrary loan services in an academic or specialized research library using an automated system. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.
