THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Texas at Dallas is a
doctoral level, state supported component of The University of Texas System
located in suburban Richardson. The
University provides 130 degrees (47 bachelors, 54 masters, and 29 doctoral
programs) and has an enrollment of over 19,000 students.
Nationally recognized for its programs in management, audiology,
engineering/computer science, and brain and behavioral sciences, the
University also provides imaginative interdisciplinary programs in the
humanities, policy studies, political science, economics, and geographical
information sciences.

  
THE LIBRARY: The Libraries of the University of Texas at
Dallas consist of more than 2.5 million volumes, 63,000 electronic journals,
1,000,000 electronic books, 9,000 media items, and over 2,000,000 microform
units. The Libraries employ more than 80 people, including
29 professionals. In support of UT Dallas's ascent to
premier research university status, the Library is an active participant in
the UT System Digital Library program, TexShare, and Amigos Library
Services. In addition, McDermott Library is a federal
government documents depository.

  
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Eugene McDermott Library at the
University of Texas at Dallas invites applications and nominations for a
forward-thinking, service-oriented, collaborative leader to manage the
Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Department. Reporting
to the Director of Libraries, the Head of Acquisitions and Electronic
Resources is responsible for envisioning and defining the services provided by
the Department. The position is responsible for ordering
and receiving all library materials including processing and reconciliation of
payments, preparing appropriate reports and statistics, and monitoring the
budget for materials. Candidates should have experience
with the management of electronic resources and provide knowledge of trends
and best practices in the field of acquisitions. The Senior Librarian is
responsible for managing all department personnel.

  
The Senior Librarian shares responsibility for developing and implementing the
mission, goals and broad policy directions for the evolving role of research
libraries in the digital age. In addition to providing
overall leadership and vision for the Department, the Librarian prepares
projections and needs assessment for the collections
budget. The Librarian will demonstrate a commitment to
personal professional development through scholarly research and publication,
presentations, and participation in national professional associations.

  
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited
program. 5 years of experience in an academic setting;
excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively
both verbally and in writing is essential. A working
knowledge of acquisitions and the management of electronic resources are
required. Other requirements: demonstrated success on
project teams consisting of librarians and support staff; demonstrated
management and supervisory experience; experience providing excellent customer
service; commitment to the continuing development of personal knowledge and
skills in the area of acquisitions; and proficiency in Office
software. Special consideration will be given to candidates
with Voyager experience.

education and experience for a 12-month administrative/professional
