Ref: 007407 This post is intended for an experienced programmer, who will be able to provide server-side and programming support to the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Building (AHSSRB) researchers in developing their projects, and to participate in training and mentoring researchers, including PhD students, in their specialist area. **Qualifications** Candidates must have a higher level qualification in computational sciences (or equivalent). They should have a proven interest in computing for research and development purposes, have excellent documentation and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work effectively in a team. A familiarity with aspects of arts, humanities and social science research is desirable... Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in some or all of the following areas: A proven record of developing applications from conception through implementation, including the architectural planning, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation phases of a software development project Advanced programming skills (e.g. Java or C+) High performance computing under Linux or Windows environments, including high performance networking and systems design Developing and integrating tools, plug-ins and scripts in an open source environment Apache /Tomcat web server software. Relational databases and database management systems (MySQL, SQLServer, Oracle) and scripting languages (PHP, Perl, Javascript, XML, XSLT, XHTML, CSS). Systems administration System backup hardware and software The evaluation of existing tools Good knowledge of security principles and practices The holder of this post will work under the general direction of the Academic Director of the AHSSRB. **Remuneration** The starting salary range is €42,911 gross p.a. **Start date and duration** The post is available from 1 March 2013 to contract end-date of 31 December 2016.
