DLF Supports Live Streaming from #ideadrop House,
Panel at SXSWi

#ideadrop house provides venue for think-tank discussions
to advance libraries and librarianship

Washington, DC, Feb. 27, 2013CLIR’s Digital Library Federation (DLF) will support live streaming and recording of discussions from the #ideadrop House at South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi), March 8–12, in Austin, Texas. The annual SXSWi has become known for its presentations in the areas of new digital works and media technology, web interface design, and other creative solutions, attracting some of the brightest minds in emerging technologies.

Sponsored by Electronic Resources and Libraries (ER&L) and ProQuest, the #ideadrop House will be a place for librarians to gather for salon-style group discussions about the future of libraries and academic librarianship.

“By sponsoring live streaming from the house, we aim to release those hallway conversations, debriefs after interesting sessions, serendipitous connections—the important networking experiences you have when attending a conference—to those who are tuning into the conference via the web,” said DLF Program Director Rachel Frick. “Partnering with Bonnie Tijerina and ProQuest on the #ideadrop House has been a great experience.”

“We know from our experience last year, librarians need a place where they can share ideas about what they’re learning at SXSWi,” said Pam Cory, ProQuest vice president global field and enterprise marketing. “The support from DLF is making it possible for those unable to attend to benefit from the inspiration and insights shared at the festival to advance libraries.”

The #ideadrop House is open to all SXSWi participants. To learn more about the events happening there, visit the schedule.

DLF is also sponsoring the SXSWi panel, “Culture Hack: Libraries & Museums Open for Making,” which will address publishing collection data as an open resource to be reused by others. Information on the session is available athttp://schedule.sxsw.com/2013/events/event_IAP4580.
