SCANNING AND DOCUMENT DELIVERY ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries-Document Services, to
participate in digital imaging of MIT theses/dissertations and slide/flat art
materials. Will batch and track projects; prepare documents for scanning and
convert to PDF or other output formats; perform searches in library catalog,
DSpace repository, or other sources; identify content requiring color scanning
or additional image treatment; follow established procedures to scan MIT
theses and dissertations for distribution in DSpace repository; meet customer
deadlines and production goals and ensure quality control; and work
collaboratively on a variety of scanning projects. May support fulfillment of
document delivery or interlibrary loan requests.

  
REQUIREMENTS: at least two years' experience that provides some understanding
of scanning, image correction, or library functions; technical experience with
digital imaging equipment and software such as Acrobat Professional, Adobe
Photoshop, and MS Excel; solid experience with standard Windows or Mac OS
computer software; demonstrated ability to master new software and systems;
evidence of strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work
with minimal supervision when meeting deadlines, managing competing
priorities, and identifying problems and carrying out solutions; an aptitude
for accurate, detail-oriented work; good data entry skills; strong
communication and interpersonal skills; and ability to work both independently
and as a team member. Work requires tolerance for exposure to dust and the
ability to lift 40 lbs., shelve and shift boxes, and push book trucks.
Familiarity with digital imaging technologies and standards desired, including
scanner technology, digitization workflow, imaging system troubleshooting, or
image analysis and processing software. Experience in academic or research
library environments and/or experience in a customer service setting also

Salary: $16.41/hour minimum

  
This is a two-year appointment with the possibility of extension.
