The University of Virginia Library has a unique opportunity for an energetic
and creative librarian to support the future growth and development of Libra,
the University's institutional repository. This position will promote
repository services to the university community through training and outreach
activities, assist members of the university community with Libra deposit and
access, and help determine strategic directions for Libra, ensuring that Libra
services support current and future scholarship of the UVA community. The
position also plays a key role in the library's scholarly communication
initiatives by serving as one of a team of experts on open access, scholarly
publishing, fair use and copyright issues.

  * Provides direct public service to patrons needing assistance with Libra;
  * Provides support for Libra, including its open access, ETD (electronic theses and dissertations) and datasets modules.
  * Answers technical and procedural queries from Libra users related to self-deposit of items.
  * Works with Registrars of various UVA schools to facilitate the deposit process for ETDs.
  * Participates in workshops and training to engage the university community in the use of Libra.
  * Answers reference questions related to search, retrieval and access to Libra items.
  * Maintains and improves Libra documentation.
  * Develops new and enhanced Libra services
  * Works with the Libra Services Team to help determine future enhancements to the repository.
  * Collaborates with the Online Library Environment unit to facilitate development and testing of new features.
  * Seeks out new content for Libra by identifying university constituencies with appropriate content and facilitating deposit.
  * Builds relationships with subject librarians, UVA faculty, UVA departments, journal editors and others to add content to the IR.
  * Collaborates with key stakeholders including the Data Services Team and Collections Steering Group to ensure that Libra services support the Library's strategic initiatives.
  * Works with the Metadata Librarian to improve Libra metadata.
  * Participates in the library's scholarly communication initiatives
  * Creates and maintains library webpages related to scholarly communication initiatives.
  * Serves as part of a team that organizes library- and university-wide conversations around key scholarly communication topics.
  * Serves as a member of the library's Copyright Team.
  * Engages in regular professional development to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the field.
  * Engages in research and development to provide continuous improvement of services in response to changing user needs.
In addition to special projects, may include general reference and
instruction, or subject librarian duties depending on background and interests
of successful candidate

  * Strong working knowledge of institutional repository systems; specific knowledge of Fedora is a plus.
  * Basic working knowledge of copyright and fair use issues, open access publishing, trends in scholarly communication, and metadata standards for repositories.
  * Strong public service orientation.
  * Ability to provide support services to library users through in-person consultation and virtual methods.
  * Ability to work as part of cross-departmental teams.
  * Well-developed organization and planning skills.
  * Exceptional ability to think innovatively and strategically to solve complex problems.
  * Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to teach and present.
  * Master's Degree in Library/Information Science or post-graduate degree in a related discipline.
  * At least 2 years of relevant experience.
