The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is the world-leader in plant diversity science,
a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction that shows the
importance of plants in all our lives. Kew's mission is to inspire and deliver
science-based plant conservation worldwide, enhancing the quality of life.

  
The Library, Art & Archives department is responsible for organising and
managing one of the world's most comprehensive collections of botanical
literature, art and Kew's own archives and modern records, which form an
unparalleled resource for a large and increasingly diverse global user
community. Working with the Directors' Correspondence collection, the
Digitisation Officer will enter details of the archival material into an
Access database, image the letters and produce a summary of their content.

This role will also contribute to Kew LAA blog and @KewDC Twitter accounts in
order to promote the project and increase awareness of the Directors'
Correspondence collection. You may occasionally need to
demonstrate your work to visitors and potential supporters.

  
You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability
to work meticulously with close attention to detail, preferably with knowledge
of digital imaging techniques and image manipulation software. You will be
able to plan your time effectively and work flexibly within a team
environment. Experience of working in the field of natural history or archival
collections is desirable and an ability to handle delicate, valuable
manuscripts in a careful and responsible manner is essential.
