We're looking for a UI/UX expert for client-side design and development for
our [Virgo](http://search.lib.virginia.edu) service, which provides a search-
and-discovery interface to the Unversity of Virginia Library catalog and
digital object repository, and for the next incarnation of our
[Libra](http://libra.virginia.edu) service, UVa's self-deposit institutional
repository.

  
_Posting Summary_:

The UVa Library is well known for excellent service, as a leader in innovative
technologies within the higher education community and in collaboration to
provide maximum benefit to the community it serves. This position takes a lead
role in web interface design and development for the University of Virginia
Library services and applications. The UI/UX Designer & Developer will report
to the Manager of Software & Systems Engineering and will work closely with a
wide variety of people across the library (the SSE team, the UX Librarian,
fellow web developers, project teams and communities supporting usability,
testing and interface issues) and within higher education. The majority of
daily work will involve developing complex custom software designed to enhance
user appeal and utility as well as the site's overall functionality, creating
web front-end user interfaces to enable new or existing services web
accessible, and developing custom code to integrate third-party applications
to web platforms where necessary.

  
The selected candidate will address complex problems and will be expected to
use expertise and standards to guide solution proposals. Colleagues and
management will be a resource of support in resolving blockers, providing
project management, priority setting and providing additional expertise.

  
Incumbent should possess good verbal and written communication skills to
convey technical guidance and information to colleagues, library faculty and
staff. The Library values mentoring and encourages all staff to share their
expertise when an opportunity is evident. The UI/UX Designer & Developer will
work with many people and as needed, will provide guidance to more junior
staff members.
