Develop, implement and manage library database projects including creating database applications, designing user interfaces and collecting statistics for assessment. Support the library's overall web environment. Work as the primary software support specialist. Develop applications to facilitate effective workflow, local content creation and information dissemination. Serve as a member of the Library Systems Team and provide backup support for other team members as necessary. Develop and maintain database driven web pages to help manage and secure the library's digital presence. Provide general technical support in the library with particular focus on software and/or database applications. Create and manage the on-going operations of library's local content databases. Work with librarians and staff to coordinate and facilitate interactions between the library's commercial and open source software applications such as but not limited to the online catalog, collection management tools and locally created databases. When appropriate, determine performance problems, recommend and/or implement information technology solutions in the library. Develop, install, and maintain library software applications on technical platforms supported by the University. Prepare related reports and summaries. Perform other duties, as assigned. Job Requirements Knowledge of computer information systems, data management systems, systems and business application development and IT security best practices typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field is required. Strong relational database design and web programming experience (MySQL, PHP, Perl, XSL) is required. Experience with front-end web development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JavaScript libraries such as Jquery is required. Prior experience adopting, implementing, maintaining and/or modifying open source software (ie Drupal, OpenConf, LibStats, ReservesDirect) is highly preferred. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Experience or strong interest in digital library or archival digitization projects is desirable. Experience working in both Windows and UNIX environments including shell scripting is preferred. Knowledge of library services and operations preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Good record and/strong interest in team projects. Some lifting of less than 50 pounds may be required. Work is performed in a typical office environment. Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours when required in support of business applications.
