The University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for an Assistant
Professor in the Criss Library. The successful applicant
will also receive an Auxiliary appointment as the Director of Special
Collections and Archives.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities:**  
  
This position provides leadership and sets direction within the department in
accordance with the library's aims and strategic direction, and is a conduit
for two-way communication about the department at the library leadership
level. Maintains a strategic development plan that will encompass growth and
enhancement of the library's collections, with an emphasis on digital formats.
Oversees and coordinates all aspects of Special Collections & Archives
operations, including the ongoing acquisition of relevant material;
preservation, conservation and management of collections; maintenance of
intellectual control; and development of access and usage policies appropriate
to both physical and virtual collections. Oversees specialized collection
management functions, including the handling of gift materials, selection and
de-selection collection processes, identification of potential conservation
and preservation materials in the general collection, and collection analysis.
Manages resources within the department, including faculty/staff, budget,
equipment, space and physical facilities. Collaborates with department
faculty/staff and library leadership to identify potential grant and funding
sources, prepare required applications, and manage funded projects.
Collaborates with UNO faculty and staff and all divisions of the library to
establish digitization priorities and ensure that digitization projects are
successfully completed. Works closely with department faculty/staff to develop
programs and exhibits that will promote collections and contribute to the
mission and vision of the library and the university. Promotes the use of
primary resources within university courses and research. Maintains an
awareness of the particular requirements of the collections and collaborates
with faculty/staff and other library departments to ensure effective
operations. Fosters communication and collegiality within the department and
with other departments in the library. Supports a high level of public service
and dedication to the library's mission within the department.

  
**Additional Duties:**  
  
Desired: Familiarity with grant and funding sources, and demonstrated ability
to successfully acquire grant support. Experience with promoting special
collections and archives, organizing exhibits (actual and virtual), and
collaborating with university departments to incorporate the use of primary
materials into courses and research. Experience in dealing with congressional
archives collections.

**Minimum Qualifications:**  
  
ALA accredited master's degree in library and information science with six
years of experience and specialized knowledge of archives or special
collections - or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction within an archives
and special collections area, and the skills and ability to represent the
department effectively within the library and the university community.
Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of departments. Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of current archival
arrangement/description standards, library cataloging standards, and computer
standards applied to archival and library collections. Knowledge of and
familiarity with digitization best practices as applied to special collections
and archives collections. Familiarity with archives software and library
systems.
