The University of Wyoming Libraries is seeking applicants for a
Cataloger/Metadata Librarian position. The position will
perform original cataloging as assigned and provide expertise and positive,
dynamic leadership for the creation and maintenance of metadata for digital
content acquired or created by the Libraries. Our digital collections are
growing and we are in the early stages of implementing an institutional
repository.

  
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  
Perform original and complex adaptive cataloging of print and non-print
materials, including electronic resources, according to national standards.
Develop comprehensive bibliographic descriptions, assign
subject headings and classification numbers according to national standards
and local practice;

  
Partner with colleagues in the development, refinement, and implementation of
policies, procedures and workflow to facilitate access to digital collections;

  
Create high-quality descriptive, technical and administrative metadata
following best practices for digital collections and institutional
repositories;

  
Collaborate on cataloging/ metadata issues with others, both internal and
external to the libraries;

  
Maintain knowledge of and provide guidance about the use of various
established and evolving cataloging/metadata schema. Interpret and adapt
national cataloging/metadata standards and schema for local purposes.

  
As a member of the library faculty, the individual is expected to pursue an
active and ongoing program of research, service and professional
development.

position reports to the Head of Technical Services.

  
Required qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Knowledge of
the principles of cataloging, subject analysis, classification, and authority
control with the ability to apply those principles using the appropriate
standards including but not limited to AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCC, and MARC.

  
Familiarity or training with non-MARC metadata schemas (e.g., Dublin Core,
EAD, VRA Core, METS, MODS, PREMIS, RDF, etc.) Excellent
interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills. Experience and
demonstrated success with collaborative projects.

  
Preferred qualifications: Academic library experience. Innovative interfaces
experience. NACO experience. Experience
applying metadata standards and schema. Knowledge of tools
to transform and crosswalk metadata.

  
APPLICATION AND SALARY: Review of applications will begin
on October 1, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled or the
search is terminated. Minimum salary is $46,000 dependent
on qualifications and experience; 12-month appointment, 22 days vacation; sick
leave, group health insurance, state and TIAA-CREF retirement plans, no state
