The Scott Memorial Library of Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital seeks a
service-oriented and energetic individual to support the Archives and Special
Collections and the digital repository, the Jefferson Digital Commons.

  
Duties and Responsibilities

  
University Archives:

  
Our desired candidate should be flexible, innovative and be ably work with
minimal direction. An ability to learn and apply new
technologies for archives management, preservation and collection access is
necessary. In the Archives this position offers an excellent opportunity for
an engaged and inquisitive individual to provide reference assistance and
access to students, faculty and researchers to Jefferson's rich special
collections and archives. The individual will support
collection organization by arranging a wide variety of resources for ease of
use and by describing holdings through guides, inventories and other finding
aids. Organizing and mounting exhibits at various campus
locations will also be the responsibility of this position.

  
Jefferson Digital Commons

  
Under the direction of the Jefferson Digital Commons Editor, this individual
will assume editorial support responsibilities for the Jefferson Digital
Commons. They will work with faculty to identify, prepare
and deposit materials into the Commons.
Coordination of scanning materials for the repository with the Library's
paraprofessional staff will be another position responsibility.

  
This position will report to the University Archivist.

  
General Information

  
The mission of the University Archives & Special Collections is to collect,
conserve and make available to researchers the enduring, historic materials
that inform the story of the institution, dating from its founding in 1824 to
the present. The Archives collects and holds the official
records of the University, while the varied Special Collections range from
10,000 rare books dating from 15th to 19th centuries, numerous manuscripts,
large photograph collections, publications and medical artifacts.

  
The Jefferson Digital Commons (JDC) is the free digital archive for articles
published by Jefferson authors, Jefferson-sponsored journals, and historical
materials from the University Archives and Special Collections. Since 2006,
the JDC has had over 1.5 million full-text downloads. The goal of the Commons
is to enhance the visibility of Jefferson scholarship and to promote Jefferson
authors.

  
The Scott Memorial Library serves the students, faculty, clinicians and staff
of Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson University Physicians and Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital. The Library collections
include more than 3000 electronic journals. 90,000 bound journal
volumes, and more than 85,000 monographs and electronic
books. In addition, a variety of popular books and
magazines, medical education software packages and 3D models complement the
Library's core journal and book collection. The library
occupies four of the six floors of the centrally located Scott Building.

  
Qualifications:

  
ALA-accredited M.L.S. or M.I.S degree or an advanced degree in History
strongly preferred and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional
development. Knowledge of emerging technology trends related to digital
collections. Familiarity with digital preservation
practices. Able to be flexible in an environment of rapid
change. Demonstrated ability to work effectively,
cooperatively and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups
across an organization to accomplish initiatives; demonstrated ability to
plan, prioritize, coordinate and implement
projects. Experience with exhibition
design and installation a plus. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills essential..

Additional Salary Information: Salary and Benefits Salary is commensurate with
experience.
