The Digital Projects/Electronic Resources Specialist position is divided
between Digital Projects (Hannon Library) -- 60% and Electronic Resources
(Hannon Library) -- 40%.

Digital Projects Specialist:

The Digital Projects Specialist is the sole support position in the Digital
Projects Department of Hannon Library and is supervised by a librarian. Hannon
Library has developed a number of digital collections including the Southern
Oregon Digital Archives (SODA) consisting of three digital collections:
Bioregion, First Nations, and Southern Oregon History, and a growing number of
image collections. In addition, an institutional repository (IR), Scholarship@
SOU has been created to retain digital files of faculty and student
scholarship along with an eUniversity Archives collection. The LTIII engages
in the design, development, and management of new locally created digital
collections. The LTIII is responsible for adding items to the existing
collections and assists in metadata creation and design for all collections.
The LTIII administers the image collections' software, CONTENTdm, develops and
maintains procedures for creating and adding digital objects to collections
and performs quality control for all scanned, captured and edited items. The
LTIII researches and engages in decision-making on digitizing standards and
best practices for various formats. The LTIII works closely with the Library's
Digital Projects team, the Special Collections librarian, and with members of
outside agencies and SOU Departments in implementing new digital collections.
Upon receiving notice of software upgrades, the LTIII checks to ensure
functionality and troubleshoots when necessary and decides when to implement
them. The LTIII hires, trains, and supervises 1-3 student assistants in
Digital Projects.

Electronic Resources Specialist:

The Electronic Resources Specialist is the sole support position in the
Electronic Resources Department of Hannon Library and is supervised by a
librarian. Hannon Library has close to 100 databases through 25 different
vendors. Some of these resources are stand alone products, but most of them
provide article citations that are linked to full-text articles in other
databases through special linking software. Most of these databases are paid
for through subscriptions, and are limited through license to faculty, staff,
students, and walk-in public users at Southern Oregon University. We therefore
also maintain an authentication system for SOU users who are accessing
databases from off campus. The LTIII will be responsible for learning and
updating the various technical systems that support access to electronic
resources. Currently these systems include an Access database, an OpenURL link
resolver (SFX), an authentication configuration file (EZProxy), and the campus
portal (Luminis). In the winter and spring of 2014, we will be migrating to a
new integrated library system. This software will be shared with 36 other
university and college libraries in the Pacific Northwest and provides the
backbone for tracking and providing access to our print and electronic
resources. This system will change workflows for the Electronic Resources
Department, but we won't know exactly how until implementation. The LTIII will
also be responsible for collecting electronic resources statistics. In
addition, the LTIII will include some website duties including occasional
updates and facilitating usability testing. There may be other miscellaneous
duties as assigned.
